13 Welcome: learn more about our universities!

Willkommen: Treffen Sie Sabine Kasten, Dozentin an der h_da

Hallo,

Sabine Kasten
Sabine Kasten M.A.

Hello,

my name is Sabine Kasten. I have been working at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences since 2009, first in the International Office and since 2015 in the Language Center as a senior lecturer in the field of German as a foreign language. I currently teach preparatory courses for university studies (DSH) and am particularly interested in virtual/intercultural exchange, blended learning, listening comprehension for advanced learners, and diversity.

I have been involved in the DACADU project since September 2022 and prepared the visit of the delegations from Spain and Ireland in October.

It is nice to be able to organize intercultural encounters again – a topic that has accompanied me for more than 25 years. Already as a student I was active in AEGEE e.V. Mainz-Wiesbaden and thus got to know Europe and helped with a summer university at the Johannes Gutenberg University. After an exchange year in the US, I continued my studies in Berlin. There I was active for a long time  at the Sprach- und Kulturbörse, before I worked for a year as a DAAD language assistant at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland.

Today, the advancement of the Internet and the available teaching technology, as well as the pedagogical experiences from the 2020-2022 pandemic, lead me to believe that international and intercultural encounters can take place both online and in presence, and each has added value. It is all the more wonderful that DACADU offers both possibilities!

To further develop DACADU and to be part of the intercultural journey within EUt+ is a great pleasure for me.

I have been employed at the Language Center of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences since 2015. Here I work as a teacher for special tasks in study-preparatory courses. Since February 2022, I have been working in the EUt+ Alliance in the area of “Multilingualism, Interculturality”.

A large percentage of of what you say happens to be astonishingly precise and it makes me ponder the reason why I hadn’t looked at this with this light previously. Your article truly did turn the light on for me personally as far as this particular issue goes. Nonetheless there is actually just one position I am not necessarily too cozy with and while I make an effort to reconcile that with the main theme of your issue, let me see what all the rest of your subscribers have to point out.Nicely done.
